Plant Appreciation Day (April 13) is the perfect time to bring a beautiful new houseplant into your home and to give the plants that you already have some much-needed pampering. Here are some handy tips to keep them strong and healthy. If you want to really spoil your plant babies, try treating them to a few hours of listening to classical music. According to several studies, houseplants love Hayden, Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert!

Do nOt overwater
If there is one general rule to take away, it is this… do not overwater! When you do water, water them well until the water is draining right through. Do not let it pool at the bottom though. Only water again once the soil dries out. This may be every 1-2 weeks, depending on the plant and conditions. Our Peace Lilies and orchids also enjoy an occasional misting.

No need for direct sun
Indoor plants generally like a sunny spot but not direct sunlight. Our Sansevieria will tolerate full sun but as a rule, it is best avoided. Peace Lilies manage in most light conditions but do flower more easily in a lighter spot. Emerald Palms also grow in most conditions but a top tip for these – less light, less water – more light, more water. Simple!

Purifies the air
Indoor plants are great at eating up toxins and purifying the air, so they are perfect for bedrooms. Be sure to treat your home to a few potted plants and follow these basic guidelines to make your space that little bit healthier and happier! Or give a nice plant to a friend this International Plant Appreciation Day who will appreciate the greenery.
